Differences in Future Families Inc. (DIFF) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that helps middle and high school students and their families gain the skills, stability, and confidence they need for the future. We do this through weekend and after-school style workshops in trades, financial literacy, and life skills.
DIFF serves youth in grades 6–12 and their families in the Jackson metro area who are experiencing academic gaps, financial stress, or limited access to safe, structured opportunities. We focus on under-resourced communities and families who are working hard, but still need extra support.
We believe that when you support a child and their family, change lasts longer. DIFF offers learning and support spaces for youth and for parents/caregivers – from money management and housing readiness to mental health resources and life planning.
We expose youth to real careers including beauty, barbering, construction, welding, and other trades through engaging, practical workshops that build confidence and skills.
DIFF uses a two-generation model that helps both youth and their parents. We offer family-centered resources like financial education, planning, and stability support so youth can thrive at home and in school.
We help students strengthen communication, emotional awareness, professionalism, and everyday decision-making through guided mentorship and life-skills development.
Right now, DIFF is in our launch phase. We are building a foundation through weekend and pop-up workshops that introduce:
• Trade exposure (beauty & barber basics, construction, welding, etc.)
• Life skills (time management, etiquette, conflict resolution, goal-setting)
• Financial basics for youth and families (budgeting, saving, understanding credit)
As we grow, these workshops will expand into full programs that include paid training, family housing supports, and long-term mentoring.
Whether you’re a parent, a student, a potential partner, or a community supporter, there is a place for you at DIFF.
